About
Vernon Smith
Nestled in the picturesque Bay of Plenty on 10 acres of rolling farmland is Vernon's workshop.
Here, craftsmanship meets passion, and the art of bespoke furniture comes to life.

Vernon's passion for furniture design began in the late 1980s, and he has been honing his craft ever since.

Vernon's journey started with agriculture and horticulture studies, but as fate would have it, he discovered his true calling during a furniture-making workshop. Fast forward a few years, and Vernon became one of the first qualified furniture designer/makers in New Zealand at Nelson Polytechnic.
With his rich heritage as the son of a renowned architect, design and aesthetics have always been part of Vernon's life. His workshop in Hawkes Bay was a testament to his exquisite craftsmanship, where he spent over a decade creating bespoke pieces that were tailored to his clients' needs.
In 2000, Vernon established his current workshop in the Bay of Plenty, where he focuses on crafting one-of-a-kind pieces and limited runs that showcase artistry and sustainability. His current dining table range is designed to provide New Zealanders with locally sourced, sustainably grown timber furniture that is not only beautiful but also affordable.
Macrocarpa timber is his choice of wood, as it has natural preservative properties and requires only the application of natural oils as a finish.

What really sets Vernon Smith Furniture Design apart is...
His commitment to crafting bespoke dining tables that are tailored to his clients' unique preferences.
Each creation is a testament to artistry, sustainability, and the passion that drives Vernon to design and craft bespoke furniture that stands the test of time.
